Recently I switched from PC to a Mac and while I’m loving my new computer I miss what seemed like 500 different USB connections on my old computer. I did a little searching and found that for a nominal fee I could purchase a USB hub that would solve my problem!

Going Green?
What was once considered to be only a fad is continuing to gain momentum in this age of social responsibility. The purchase of eco-friendly promotional products made of biodegradable products are on the rise. Consumers who are choosing to live more environmentally conscious are now expecting their employers and perspective employers to do the same. The promotional products of yesterday are slowly falling behind the times, the bandwagon is here are you going to jump on?
Function Anyone?
We have all gotten them, cheap gimmicky promotional products that go in the trash as soon as we get home. Effective promotional products are ones that the user sees value in, but most of all has a useful function! Your potential customers don’t want another ugly hat to throw in the back of the closet, no they want a hat that is breathable and designed for outdoor activity. The added cost involved is easily outweighed by the repeat business you will receive from an effective promotional product.
Who says it has to be black or White?
As someone who spends a majority of the week at a promotional products company, I have seen my fair share of traditional promotional items go out the door. However it seems recently that the traditional black or white t-shirt or mug is taking a back seat to the more vibrant custom color schemes. With fierce competition for market share, companies are realizing the importance of standing out at trade shows and expos. Pricing
Without a doubt pricing is the chief motivator when choosing promotional products. QR codes have always been a hot topic around here. But, before you jump on the band wagon, it’s important to ask yourself — “when does using a QR code make sense?” Let’s take a look at what we know about QR codes, so that you can decide if they’re a fit for your next campaign.
- Adoption is still pretty low: The recent release of Compete’s smartphone intelligence survey results from Q3 of 2010 shows that 28 percent of smartphone owners have used mobile apps to scan barcodes.
- Usage is increasing at a rapid rate: Mobio’s “Naked Facts” report highlights a 1,200 percent increase in mobile scans from July to December of 2010.
- QR Codes are Free: Check out sites like Kaywa and Qurify where you can make as many QR codes as you would like for free.
- Apple Phones Scan More QR Codes: Apple phones currently scan the majority of QR codes (68%), followed by Android and then BlackBerry devices.
- You Can Track Scans: By using a service like bit.ly you can both create QR codes and track the number of times someone scans your QR code.
- You Shouldn’t Link a QR Code to a Flash Site: Most mobile devices do not support flash.
- Most QR Codes are Black and White: But, some scanners can support other colors.
- QR Codes Can Do Many Things: They can send someone to a URL, send a text, allow a user to download a file, call someone or unlock a message or video.
- You Must Offer an Incentive: Most people scan QR codes so that they can get something (coupon or discount). So, be sure to offer a good reason for someone to want to scan it.
- No Licenses Are Required: You are not required to purchase a license to use QR codes.

The Midwest has just been hammered over the past couple of days with storm after storm. This rain got me thinking about how I only have one umbrella and it’s pink. I offered it to my husband yesterday morning, but he opted to keep his masculinity intact and just ‘dodge’ the rain drops. I’m pretty sure he was soaked by the time he got to work. So…is it just us, or are others not prepared for these spring showers?
With spring trade shows popping up as fast as spring flowers, why not prepare customers for this rainy-season ahead and buy weather-resistant promotional items? More useful and clever than those pens, stress balls and paper weights that you usually pass out…I’ll beg to guess rain gear could be a hot item this season.
